Kenzhegaly A. Sagadiev
An eminent academic and public figure, a statesman, doctor of economic sciences, professor, deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan (III and IV convocations), and full member of the National Academy of Sciences.
Kenzhegaly A. Sagadiev was born on February 18th, 1938 in Akkol aul located in the Zhangeldinsky region of Kostanay oblast. His schooling was completed in 1955 at the Kazakh Semiozerny High School, located in what is now known as the Auliekolsky region in the same oblast. Subsequently, he was a student in the Faculty of Economics at the Kazakh State University named after Kirov (now the Al-Farabi National University), graduating in 1960. From there, he studied at the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after Plekhanov, where he graduated in 1966. His achievements continued to accrue: he became a Doctor of Economics in 1977, was appointed professor in 1978, became a full member (Academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1994, and received acknowledgement as an Honoured Worker in Science and Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Dr Sagadiev has held leadership positions in five of the largest higher education institutions in Kazakhstan:
- Rector of the Tselinograd Agricultural Institute (1982-1990)
- Vice-Rector (1972-1982) and Rector (1992-1994) of the Kazakh Economic University named after Ryskulov
- Rector of the Kazakh National Agricultural University (1996-2001)
- Rector of the University of International Business (2001-2004, 2017-honorary President)
- President of the International University of Information Technologies (2012 –pres.time)
He was appointed Сhief Academic Secretary (1992) and later elected President of the National Academy of Sciences (1994-96). He had been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Technological Development in 2012-2014.
In the field of politics, Dr. Sagadiev was elected as a deputy in the Third (2004-07) and Fourth (2007-11) convocations of the Majilis (Lower House) of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and has served as Chairman of its Committee on Finance and Budget (2004-07).
The initiator of a scientific school, Dr. Sagadiev is the author of more than 250 scholarly works, including 20 monographs and textbooks. He is known far and wide in the region for his publications in national newspapers and magazines. Internationally, he is a recognized scholar and economist. Among his international honours is his election to membership of the New York Academy of the United States and of the American Association of Academic Economists. He has been an academician of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and of the International Academy of Higher School, both since 1997
The contributions of Dr. Sagadiev to the country and society have received well deserved recognition. He has been honoured with many state awards, among them the Orders of the Red Banner of Labour, of People’s Friendship, of Parasat, of Barys of the Second degree, and of Otan.
Since 2012 he has been President of the University of International Business and of the International University of Information Technology. As a member of the Nur Otan Party, he is actively involved in projects and initiatives that are in the public interest. Dr. Sagadiev is married to Nagitay Kishkenova and has three sons (Nurlan, Erlan and Erbol) and 10 grandchildren and 1 great – grandchild.
